Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed to provide professional preparation for holders of baccalaureate degrees in areas other than education and who seek teacher certification. Students pursue teacher certification while earning credits toward the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree. The master’s degree may be completed after certification, but degree requirements must be completed within six (6) years of the time the first course in the program is completed.
The MAT program may be completed as a full-time or part-time student. The certification portion of the program can be completed in two (2) years as a full-time student; however, the Early Childhood and Special Education programs require additional coursework and an additional field experience. Most courses are offered in the late afternoon or evening; however, you should be aware that student teaching and other field experiences must be completed during the day.
