 Ph.D. Exercise Physiology with a cognate in nutrition


Dr. Carole Sloan received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Georgia State University. She completed her Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology with a cognate in nutrition at Wayne State University in 2014.  Her area of study for her dissertation was on the effects of chronic and acute exercise on immunity (salivary IgA and salivary alpha amylase).  During her studies at Wayne State she received the following awards:

Midwest American College of Sports Medicine, Outstanding Doctoral Student Poster Presentation Award, November, 2010.
American College of Sports Medicine, Regional Chapter Poster Award Winner, May 2011.  Additionally, she was chosen to receive financial assistance for her research from her dissertation research, which was published at:

Sloan, C. A., Engels, H. J., Fahlman, M. M., Yarandi, H. E., & Davis, J. E. (2013). Effects of exercise on S-IGA and URS in postmenopausal women. International Journal of Sports Medicine, 34(1), 81-86.

Dr. Sloan has many years of experience teaching a variety of classes including Exercise Physiology, Nutrition for the Professional (online), Lifetime Wellness (online), Tests and Measurements, Facilities and Equipment, Advanced First Aid, Electrocardiography Interpretation, Aerobic Dance, Stress Management, Introductory Nutrition, and Basic Emergency Medical Training.  She enjoys interacting with students and seeing them grow throughout their education and career.

Currently, Dr. Sloan teaches full-time at Henry Ford College and directs the program in Fitness Leadership.  She enjoys all kinds of exercise, reading, and spending time with her family.


 Adjunct faculty in the Kinesiology Division within the College of Education. I have taught courses in Exercise Science and Sport Studies and the Health program at Wayne State.  Specifically, I have taught HE 3440 Nutrition and Health Education, KIN 6310 Physiology of Exercise 2, KIN 6320 Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription, and KHS 6540 Workshop in Kinesiology, Health and Sport Studies.
