Educational Partnerships and Experiences

Welcome to Educational Partnerships and Experiences formerly the Office of Clinical Experiences at WSU College of Education. Our focus is the advancement of equity and innovation through academic partnerships within the university, across universities in the region, and with numerous PK-12 districts and their community organizations. Opportunities to engage with their students' communities enables teacher candidates to better recognize the funds of knowledge diverse students and their families contribute to the learning exchange in classrooms. Development of our various partnerships furthers the Teacher Education Division's goals for preparing urban teachers who are reflective, innovative, and committed to diversity. Our shared aim is to advance teacher candidates' knowledge and skills related to learners, their communities, curriculum, and instruction.

The EdP&E team continuously develops partnerships which avail WSU students rigorous clinical practice experiences. Clinical experiences in real classroom contexts allow future teachers to see, hear, and reflect on the dynamic character of the urban classroom. We work with students, faculty, staff, district partners and community organizations in the Metro Detroit area to arrange practice-based educational experiences in public schools for teacher candidates working toward certification. We facilitate student placements in urban community organizations for various course specific clinical components, pre-student teaching apprenticeships in urban public schools, as well as the full term of student teaching clinical experiences in public schools as required by the Michigan Department of Education for:
