Dr. Arya is a tenured faculty member in Reading, Language, and Literature in the Teacher Education Division. She teaches masters, education specialist, and doctoral courses in reading theory and practice. Her areas of expertise are Miscue Analysis, Emergent Literacy, Comprehension – Retellings, Eye Movements and Reading, and Reading Programs and Assessments. Dr. Lewis’s areas of expertise are Teacher Learning; Professional Development; and Mathematics Education. Her research interest is in how teachers learn about teaching and learn mathematics from their daily work. She is especially interested in the conditions and constraints of the everyday work of teaching and how teachers can learn and grow in their regular classroom contexts. She also focuses on the practices that lead to equitable outcomes in mathematics learning for all children.

Dr. Özgün-Koca is currently working at the College of Education at Wayne State University (WSU). After receiving a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, in 1993, Dr. Koca pursued graduate studies in applied mathematics at Middle East Technical University, Ankara. A scholarship from the Turkish Higher Education Council and the World Bank led Dr. Özgün-Koca to pursue doctoral work with Sigrid Wagner at Ohio State University where Dr. Özgün-Koca further developed her expertise in using technology in mathematics education. Her dissertation topic was on the effects of linked multiple representations in a computer software environment. She has published articles or manuscripts that address the use of technology in mathematics education in Mathematics Teacher, Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, OnMath, School Science and Mathematics, The Mathematics Educator, Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, and Journal of Technology and Teacher Education.

Dr. Cinabro earned Undergraduate degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Chicago, Masters and PhD in Particle Physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Post-doc at Harvard. He was appointed Professor in Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State since 1995.
He does research in particle physics, studies the properties of heavy quarks, and astrophysics, cosmology with supernovae, funded by the Dept of Energy and the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Myhr’s research interests are in the plasticity of neurons, especially the development and homeostasis of intrinsic excitability in diverse retinal neurons. She is currently focusing on teaching introductory biology and physiology, and running a learning community for undergraduate students interested in neuroscience. Another project is to develop new ways to teach introductory biology more effectively with active-learning in class with the assistance of peer mentors and learning communities integrated with active-learning in homework assignments. She is also developing a new format for comparative physiology in which groups of students work together to create a wiki describing the physiology of organisms, then as a group orally describe and compare the different organisms.

Alycia Meriweather has worked in Detroit Public Schools for the last 15 years, and is a life-long resident of the city of Detroit. Originally a middle school science classroom teacher, she became a lead teacher, a professional development facilitator, the Supervisor for Middle School Science for the district, and now serves as the Interim Director for the Detroit Mathematics and Science Center, a proud member of the Michigan Mathematics and Science Center Network (http://www.mimathandscience.org).
Mrs. Meriweather is passionate about ensuring equitable education and unique learning experiences for Detroit teachers and students and has worked diligently toward this goal. Alycia is also very involved in her Southwest Detroit community, teaches as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University, and is currently the board president of the non-profit arts organization, Living Arts. Alycia Meriweather is a graduate of Detroit Public Schools, the University of Michigan (undergraduate), and Wayne State University (graduate).
