Programs
Certification & Endorsement Programs:
Teacher certification can be obtained as part of a bachelor's degree in education, a post-bachelor's program or a Master's of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Students also have the option of earning certification in conjunction with a bachelor's degree from the College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, or the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts.
The elementary education program qualifies the holder to teach all subjects in kindergarten through grade five. Additionally, the major and minor subjects may be taught in the sixth through eighth grades. Students elect a teaching major and minor, or three miinors.
The secondary education curriculum qualified the holder to teach grades 7-12. Students elect an academic major and minor.
In keeping with the College's theme, both pre-student and student teachers are required to have field experiences in schools in both urban and suburban settings. In addition, the faculty work with the Horizons Upward Bound program at the Cranbrook Institute and are involved in a number of grant programs enhancing teacher education and curriculum development
Graduate Programs
Graduate programs at the Master's level are also offered in the above listed areas. At the Education Specialist Level (30 hours beyond the Master's) and doctoral level there are programs in Curriculum & Instruction (with a specific area of focus), Special Eduation, and Reading, Language & Literature.
