Elementary Education Leading to K-8 Certification
New State of Michigan Standards for Elementary Teacher Certification will go into effect in the Fall term, 2010. At the time of the printing of this catalog, the College of Education had not yet developed the requirements that students will need to meet to satisfy the new standards. Therefore, the program description provided in this catalog will not be applicable for students entering the elementary teacher preparation programs as of September, 2010. Students admitted to the program as of June 2010 are encouraged to contact undergraduate advisors in the College to request a revised program description.
The elementary certificate qualifies the holder to teach all subjects in kindergarten through grade five and all K-8 subjects in a self-contained classroom. Additionally, the major and minor subjects may be taught in the sixth through eighth grade if the teacher has passed the MTTC content test.
