Admission to the Curriculum and Instruction Doctoral program is contingent upon admission to the Graduate School; for requirements, see Admission to the Graduate School. In addition, applicants to doctoral programs in the College of Education are required to submit the following documents:
Official Transcripts (undergraduate and graduate)--A transcript is considered official only if it is sent directly from the institution where the work was completed and bears an official seal. A $50.00 fee must accompany the application.
References--Four references from academics and/or professionals who have knowledge of your academic and/or professional career potential are required. At least, two of the recommendations must be from the academic community, professors who have taught you. They must address your ability to write academic papers. The references are completed on Recommendation Forms provided to you after your application has been received and processed.
An Autobiographical Statement--Include significant information about educational training and experience; community, vocational, and avocational involvements; and current professional activities such as memberships in professional organizations and publications. Provide a statement of intent clearly articulating why you are seeking a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Identify what specific aspects of Curriculum and Instruction you are interested in studying.
Academic Paper--All applicants to the Curriculum and Instruction doctoral program are required to write an academic paper that should demonstrate your knowledge of the field and your ability to write. Approved paper topics will be forwarded after the initial application is received and reviewed.
When all required materials--transcripts, recommendations, the autobiographical statement, academic paper, and other documents--have been received, you will be invited to meet with an interview committee comprised of members representing the curriculum area of interest. If admission is recommended, an advisor will be assigned to facilitate your work.
