Canadian Certification Program

Canadian residents with a four-year bachelor’s degree and an interest in pursuing teacher certification are invited to seek admission to a new program being offered by the Wayne State University College of Education in Detroit.

Designed to address the growing demand for admission to teacher certification program, this program meets the needs of individuals wishing to pursue a career in teaching.  Courses will be offered on Wayne State’s main Detroit campus.

Following completion of the requirements for teacher certification students will be licensed  to teach in the state of Michigan.  Following receipt of their Michigan certification students wishing to teach in the province of Ontario, Canada can submit their Michigan certification to the Ontario College of Teachers.  Students can be granted a temporary license to teach in the province of Ontario. For more information on teaching in Ontario students are advised to contact the Ontario College of Teachers or contact Janet Andrews, who coordinates the Canadian program at Wayne State.

Eligibility requirements:

  • 2.75 GPA (University of Windsor students must have a 4 year honours degree)
  • Passing the MTTC Basic Skills Test
