ArtsCorpsDetroit
ArtsCorpsDetroit (est. 2010) is a community-based program at Wayne State University envisioned as a way to support faculty in offering arts based service-learning courses, and as a way to coordinate volunteer opportunities for students, alumni and others who want to help revitalize the urban community through the arts. A research component of ArtsCorpsDetroit was established to document and evaluate the impact of ArtsCorpsDetroit on two main constituencies that were brought together through the service-learning courses: (1) university service-learning students and (2) City of Detroit community partners. The research began with the study of one course offered through the departments of Art History and Honors: Topics in Community-Art as Social Practice and five community partner agencies. In the second year, three new community partners were added to the research protocol as well as two new student groups: alumni from the course Art as Social Practice, and students in the course Art Therapy Introduction and Ethics, which has a service-learning assignment.
