Overview of Coursework

The Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling offers training with emphasis in the following areas:  Career Development, Job Placement and Supported Employment and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. Specific emphasis is provided in the following disabilities:

  1. Psychiatric Disabilities
  2. Dual Diagnosis Disorders
  3. HIV/AIDS
  4. Trauma and Mental Health
  5. Offender Reintegration

In addition, students will gain an increase level of knowledge in incorporating Hope and Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy as part of the counseling process.Rehabilitation counseling candidates must complete a sixty (60) semester hour program. This includes sixteen (16) credit hours of professional courses in counseling; twenty nine (29) credit hours of rehabilitation course work; six (6) credit hours of educational evaluation and research course work; and nine (9) credit hours in practicum and internship.  Students can pursue study on a full-time or part-time basis.
