I teach in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Computer Education areas. I am also the major advisor to students, primarily graduate students, assigned to either areas. My focus is to ensure that students receive a quality education with consideration for the conservation of financial resources.
Fundamentally, I believe that Learning and Change are synonymous terms. Meaning, if one is learning, then one is changing. However, I do not expect the change to occur instantly. Changes in attitudes or beliefs may occur over time. I believe that effective teaching is the impetus for learners to identify how new concepts or skills learned can be applied in their lives. When adult learners internalize new information or master a new skill, their perceptions, perspectives, beliefs and/or attitudes have been influenced.
I believe that learning is perpetual. I believe that effective teaching has the ability to influence students to continue the learning process after the formal teaching/learning session has concluded. Students can be inspired to review, apply and/or practice concepts and skills learned. They may also seek additional related information, especially web-based, that supports what was learned in the classroom. I believe that internet based technological resources promote ubiquitous learning by allowing learners access to information and the ability to communicate with others, at any time.
In March 2013, I was recognized among the top 25 Education Professors in Michigan.
