Biography

 Contemporary artist, Anita Bates has been exhibited in several venues including the G.R. N’Namdi Gallery,  Ashara Ekundayo Gallery in Oakland, CA, Dell Pryor Gallery, Detroit Artists Market,  River’s Edge Gallery in Wyandotte, Michigan, and A Gathering of the Tribes Gallery in New York, NY. Her work was also featured at the 2013 Venice Biennale as part of the Luciano Benetton Collection. 
The artist and her work have been noted and reviewed in various publications and periodicals such as ArtNews.com, Detroit Home Magazine, Imago Mundi: The Luciano Benetton Collection, BLAC Magazine, Trait Magazine, and the Detroit News and Free Press. 
Ms. Bates holds an MFA in painting and an MA in studio art and is a 2019 Kesge Arts Fellow in painting.  Both an artist and educator, Anita was the recipient of a  Fulbright Memorial Fellowship in Japanese Education and has over  20 years of teaching experience in both, k-12 and post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

Teach and develop Art Education undergraduate and graduate courses, and in-service initiatives for PK-12 educators.
Serve as program coordinator of Art Education, and lead the innovation, continuous improvement, and assessment of the program.
Advise, mentor, and help recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate students.
Recruit, retain, and evaluate part-time faculty teaching and coaching in Art Education.
