Sports Adminstration Research and Service

The Sports Administration program continually seeks to better serve KHS students. In aligning with the Wayne State mission as a research institution, faculty have established area specialty experts in the areas of teaching, service and research. Dr.Yun Choi heads up the Sports Administration Research Team (SART).

In the service area, Ron Simpkins, Associate Director of the Volunteers, Administrators and Coaches Training (VAC) program will continue as the lead person in service. The Sports Administration service programs are active all year long. This past year faculty and students accepted an invitation from the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) to participate in the Michigan State Fair.  A total of 21 students staffed the exhibit for 12 days in the Fairgrounds’ pavilion. It was estimated that more than 50,000 people came through the pavilion doors and at least 5,000 people visited the Wayne State Sports Administration exhibit. Faculty members plan to annually exhibit at the MSHOF, GM Downtown River Days and the Michigan State Fair.

The Sports Administration program has secured funding to continue our service programs. The Carls Foundation, Detroit Youth Foundation, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Youth Development Commission and the Detroit Housing Commission have been very generous in their support. These funds are used to provide after-school and summer programming for young people.
