2020 Education Annual Job Fair

The annual Education Job Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020. Wayne State students and alumni who are seeking employment or interested in boosting their communication, interviewing and networking skills are encouraged to attend. Students and graduates from education programs at colleges and universities throughout the state, current education professionals and others interested in pursuing careers in education are also welcome to participate in the event, which will be held on the main campus in the Student Center Ballroom.

  • No fee for candidates registering online by Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
  • Onsite registration on May 1, 2020, is $10.00.

Candidates may start signing in at 8:30 a.m. Parking is available in Structure 5. Cost to park is $7.75 and you must use a credit card to enter and leave the structure. Limited street parking is available.

Have the following information ready to be added to your candidate registration form:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Address
  • Phone numbers
  • Certification/licensure
  • Teaching major, teaching minor, additional endorsement(s) or certification
  • Professional e-portfolio link (make it public)
  • LinkedIn or other electronic resume (make it public)
  • Personal statement (optional; maximum 200 words)
  • Pay attention to capitalization, punctuation and grammar as this information will be shared (with your permission) with recruiters

Creating Your Vision: Career Goals & Vision Board Workshop

  • Date: Wednesday, April 8, 2020

As you are preparing for your job search, it may be helpful to get clarity on your career goals. Join Career Services and the College of Education for a workshop that is designed to help you visualize your future! We will provide magazines, scissors, glue, and poster board for students that want to design their own vision board. We will also have laptops available for those that want to design a virtual vision board (using Pinterest or another platform). Not sure where to start? Why not exploring with the Lego® Career Challenge? This workshop is a fun and interactive way to start thinking about your future career.

Use the Lego® Career Challenge to help you narrow in on your career vision! Select a challenge by choosing a problem you would like to solve and use Lego® bricks to build a representation of your plan to impact that challenge. 

Job Fair 101 & Resume Writing

Make the most out of your time at the Education Job Fair! Join Career Services and the College of Education to learn valuable tips and strategies that will prepare you to network at the Job Fair and beyond. We will discuss what you can expect to encounter at the Education Job Fair, how to approach potential employers, and how to prepare your resume beforehand. Learn successful tips on marketing your skills and abilities in today's job market to improve your resume-interview ratio. Bring your resume for feedback and we will have laptops available for anyone that wants to make improvements to their resume on the spot.

Strategies to Nail the Elevator Pitch at a Job Fair

First impressions are important during a job fair. Join Career Services and the College of Education for a workshop on how to best tailor your Education Job Fair conversations to the specific employers that will be in attendance. We will discuss how to research potential employers ahead of time and we will have laptops available so you can do so on the spot! After you've done your research, we'll discuss best practices on how to approach potential employers. Come prepared to develop and practice your "elevator pitch"!
